Charles E. Gilbert, III
Charlie Gilbert has a B.A. from Harvard and a J.D. from Boston College Law School. He is admitted to practice in Maine and Massachusetts, and several federal courts, including the United States Supreme Court. He was board certified as a civil trial advocate by the National Board of Trial Advocacy in 1995, and recertified in 2000. Charlie has been active in the 5th grade mock trial and public relations programs of the Maine State Bar Association for over twenty years. He is a former Secretary-Treasurer of the John Waldo Ballou American Inn Of Court, and is currently a member of the executive committee of the Penobscot County Bar Association. Charlie is a member of the American Bar Association and the American Judicature Society. He is a former President of the Hampden Congregational Church, and is the local volunteer coordinator of interviewing for the Harvard Undergraduate Admissions Office. Charlie is listed in Who’s Who In America, and Who’s Who In American Law. He has been in private practice in Bangor since 1978, where his special interest is his clients, whom he represents in litigation, transactional, and in pro-active counseling matters. In his spare time, Charlie plays with the grandkids, helps Peggy with the Icelandic horses, gets left behind by the boys on the ski slopes, enjoys the summer sunsets at camp, and wishes he had more time to work on his golf game. Arthur J. Greif
Arthur (A.J.) Greif is a New Jersey native, who summered in Wayne, Maine from age 10 on. A.J. is a graduate of the College of William and Mary (1973)and the University Of Pittsburgh Law School (1977). After practicing in Pittsburgh and Denver, he came to Maine permanently 19 years ago, where he practiced with firms in Lewiston and Bangor before joining the firm in 1997. He is a member of the John Waldo Ballou American Inn Of Court and the American Trial Lawyers Association. A.J. maintains an active civil and criminal trial practice throughout Maine, with special emphasis on all types of personal injury cases, employment discrimination claims, and civil rights litigation. His success with juries is well known by lawyers throughout Maine; he has achieved twelve jury verdicts greater than $100,000.00 and three which exceeded $1,000,000.00. A.J. has run nine marathons including twice at Boston, but his real passion is bicycling. He regularly rides fifty miles or more on his bike. Julie D. Farr
Julie Farr grew up in Gardiner and Ellsworth. She has a B.A. from the University of Maine and a J.D. from Emory University Law School in Atlanta, where she was articles editor of the Bankruptcy Developments Journal. She is a member of the John Waldo Ballou American Inn of Court. Julie clerked with the firm after her first year of law school, and returned in 2000 after working several years for firms in Bangor and Ellsworth. Her civil practice focuses on personal injury, employment law, insurance coverage disputes, and complex litigation. Peggy Gilbert
Peggy Gilbert is a native of Dover-Foxcroft, Maine, who knew she wanted to be a lawyer when she was eleven. She founded the firm which is today Gilbert & Greif, P.A. as a solo practice in 1984. She is a graduate of the University of Maine and Gonzaga University Law School in Spokane, Washington. After being admitted to practice in 1982, Peggy served as an assistant Maine Attorney General in the human services division, the first assistant to be based in Bangor. She later served as a bond claim supervisor for Peerless Insurance Company in Keene, New Hampshire, before returning to Maine to open her private practice. Peggy is a former member of the executive committee of the Penobscot County Bar Association, and also served on the Lawyer Referral Committee of the Maine State Bar Association. Since her involuntary retirement from active practice due to multiple sclerosis, Peggy has served as Of Counsel to the firm. She has also served as a Trustee of Unity College. Two of her six children are still in school, and keep her busy. Peggy's interests also include her grandchildren, her Icelandic horses, and the roses she grows at the lake in the summer. Lisa Butler
Lisa Butler is a native of Hancock County, a graduate of the University of Michigan with
a B.A. in classical languages, and a 1993 graduate of the University of Maine School of Law.
After admission to the Maine Bar, for 14 years, she practiced law in legal services in Maryland,
Delaware and then Florida. Lisa represented migrant farmworkers including litigating
employment cases in federal courts, and advocating for farmworkers exposed to pesticides.
Since her return to Maine in 2008, Lisa has begun to develop a civil litigation practice with our
firm focusing on employment discrimination, wage and hour claims, toxic tort and other general
civil cases. Lisa is a member of the National Employment Lawyers Association, Maine
Employment Lawyers Association, Maine State Bar Association, John Ballou Inns of Court and
the Penobscot County Bar Association. She is an active member of the Bars of the State of
Maine and Florida, and of the U.S District Court for the District of Maine. Outside of practicing
law, Lisa enjoys horses, gardening, art, photography, politics and family. |
